What to Wear for Mother’s Day Lunch

I’m not a huge pink person, occasionally I get the urge to wear it, but I’m much more drawn to peaches and corals which work so well on a warm skin tone. That however, changed when I saw this beautiful blush pink skirt and decided it would solve the problem of what to wear for Mother’s Day lunch. ¬†As you know though, I would never buy something that I could only wear for one occasion. So before buying I had to make sure that I would get good cost per wear from the skirt.

It wasn’t just the colour that attracted me, it was also the movement of the fabric. I have wanted to buy into the pleated skirt trend for the Spring, but unfortunately most styles just don’t work on me because the pleats are too stiff and won’t sit flat over a tummy. This skirt is made from a very light satin feel fabric and lined with jersey, so it literally floats and sits beautifully on a curvy figure.

I Knew I would be able to dress it up, but had to think more carefully about whether I could or would wear it casually. Luckily when I tried it on I was wearing one of the few pieces I have in pink; a pair of loafers. With a relaxed linen T-shirt it worked. I was tempted to buy the linen T-shirt too, but then I remembered that I had a dusky pink one from Boden.

The skirt is such a subtle shade of pink that it will work with other pastels too, if you want to wear the Spring pastels trend.

For the smarter option I paired it with my trusty Eileen Fisher silk camisole top and a softly draped jacket in ivory, adding a beautiful lariat necklace I had from my sisters for my 50th birthday. After all Mother’s Day is the perfect time to bring out your special jewellery pieces.

I’m looking forward to finding more new ways to wear this beautiful skirt because I never keep pieces “for best” I think you should feel your best everyday. I may try it with a pair of suede trainers, perhaps these pink suede ones, and a lightweight knit for cooler Spring days.

What will you be wearing for Mother’s Day? I hope you have a wonderful day whether you are treating your mum or being treated yourself. If you don’t have family to celebrate Mother’s Day with, I hope you treat yourself anyway.
