Some wardrobe pieces are so useful I buy them in multiple colours. They are part of my Style Formula and can fall into the Essential Basics group (usually in a neutral colour) and the Signature Pieces group (usually in a superior fabric like silk and possibly an accent colour or print) Essential Basics are those items that you can base an outfit around and in this case I am talking about little tops. They don’t shout at you, they just quietly do their job. Think of the multi tasking summer tops that can go under your work suit, maybe to provide some colour, with a great pair of trousers for evening or with a pair of jeans at the weekend. Because these wardrobe basics work so hard, it’s worth buying them in more than one colour or print.

I choose either a sleeveless style or one with a short sleeve and here are some ideas of how you might use them in your wardrobe:
As holiday season is upon us, pack a few of these little tops and wear them with your shorts during the day, or in the evening with a more dressy skirt or trousers.
For work during the summer, they are perfect combined with linen pieces on the hottest days.
For an occasion pop this little top under a jacket and use one of the colours in the print for the rest of the outfit.
