If you have ever wondered how to make your outfits more stylish, I have some styling tips to share with you. Maybe you’ve seen a new trend and would love to try it but are frightened of making a mistake. Well the good news is, that now pretty much anything goes. I mean, if an eighties Laura Ashley style dress is on trend this Spring, can you really go wrong? I like to try new trends, but only if I can fit them into my own personal style. So that means anything too grungy will never have a home in my wardrobe. I have done ripped jeans – much to Hubby’s horror, although come to think of it he seems to wear them, not sure that’s got anything to do with trends though! But I digress. Ripped jeans I will do, with a cashmere jumper or silk blouse, but not with an equally distressed T-shirt and fugly (as in “flipping” ugly) trainers.
Here are some ideas to make your outfits more stylish. Some you may hate (I know the cowboy boots are going to be marmite) but you could go shopping without the intention of buying, to try some of them out. You never know, you might find a combination you love. Remember to think about the elements of your personal style and whether any of the options would work for you.
Make Your Outfits More Stylish – Colour Blocking
There are 2 ways to do this. If you love bright colours, you might be prepared to wear one from top to toe. However, if you are more of a neutrals lover, you can do it that way too.
For the bright look I have used a pair of Paper Bag style trousers, but if you can’t wear a high waist, opt for a pair of jeans instead.
The neutrals look could be a bit bland, but by adding in the wrap and the cat eye sunglasses it gives it a modern feel.
How to make your outfits more stylish – Be Adventurous With Accessories
Accessories are an easy way to both bring your outfit up to date and make it more interesting. Without the accessories, the outfit below is just jeans and a silk shirt. But when you get a bit adventurous with a few statement accessories, it becomes so much more stylish. I have used pieces that sit comfortable together; the silver boots with a silver bag and the chain of the pendent, the shirt colour matched with the lenses in the sunglasses and stone on the pendent. It makes the outfit balanced.
How to make your outfits more stylish – Do High/Low
Again there are two ways to do this. It’s about unexpected pairings, like smart and casual which I have done here with the jeans outfit. Or mixing budget and designer as in the jumpsuit outfit.
For the Smart/Casual pairing I have taken a tailored Chanel style jacket (see my jacket shopping page for other options) heels and a structured bag and mixed them with a pair of jeans. I have pulled the colours together with the flowers on the jeans mimicking the colours in the jacket and then used one of the colours for the accessories.
For the Designer/Budget option, I have used a jumpsuit from the High Street and then mixed it with Designer accessories, elevating the jumpsuit.
Will you be trying any of these options?
