You may have found your party outfit but it’s all those finishing touches, evening bags, jewellery and cover ups that turn a nice outfit into a WOW outfit stamped with your personality. The problem isn’t that there is no choice, more that there is too much choice. When I am creating outfits for a client I have a few key places that I search for the finishing touches. So below I have picked out some of my favourite items and listed out the best places to look if none of these are right for you. And of course I haven’t forgotten that shoes are important too, so if you missed it, I posted 40 of the best party shoes here.
What you choose as far as jewellery is concerned is dependant on your taste and your outfit. There has been a trend for the last few seasons for delicate pieces and layered necklaces. If you are petite, something delicate will work better for you, but equally if you are tall or larger scale they would be a bit lost. If your outfit has lots of sequins or detail, something simple would be better, perhaps just earrings. But it does depend on your personality too, because with a very simple dress you might prefer to keep the accessories minimal too, if that is your style. I on the other hand, would feel my outfit was unfinished without a necklace or earrings.
For statement and individual or special occasion pieces, I have a couple of favourites but they are on the pricey side – there are less expensive items further down.
Here are a few other pieces that caught my eye…
1 Hoop earrings // 2 Pearl bangle // 3 Mother of Pearl Pendant // 4 Multi strand beads // 5 Gold earrings // 6 Diamante cuff // 7 Gold ball necklace // 8 Multi strand necklace // 9 Earrings // 10 Necklace // 11 Green stone earrings // 12 Coin necklace // 13 Diamante strand earrings // 14 Stone drop earrings // 15 Blue/gold necklace // 16 Stone bangle
Pretty Evening Bags
There are so many pretty bags around now, you can find them in almost any colour and size for the evening. If you want just one that will do multiple occasions though, I would recommend choosing one in a metallic, like the one below, that isn’t too small and can be used with or without a strap or chain. They go with everything and will do day and evening occasions.
If you go to lots of evening events throughout the year, it’s worth building up a collection of bags to give yourself some variety. After a metallic, choose one in a neutral colour or one that is multi coloured to wear with single coloured outfits. Navy is a great evening alternative to black, as is silver grey if you have cool colouring or a soft gold if you have warm colouring. If you wear neutral colours in the evening you can have more fun with the colours in your bag. For example a navy evening dress would look gorgeous with the multi coloured sequin bag below.
Here are a few that I loved…
1 Pink diamante bag // 2 Blue fly bag // 3 Silver pouch bag // 4 Silver flap bag // 5 Green embroidered bag // 5 Green velvet bag // 6 Star bag // 7 Bow bag // 8 Sparkle bag // 9 Teal and pearl bag // 10 Velvet bag // 11 Glitter bag // 12 Gold tasel bag //
When you have spent care and money on your outfit it’s a shame to put your everyday coat over the top. Sometimes you need an extra layer to keep you warm if the party venue is a little chilly too. Cover Ups have become much more stylish in recent years, from sparkly boleros to faux fur coats. We added a faux fur trimmed wrap to our collection last winter and they were so popular we’ve done them again.
And here are some more options…
Hair accessories have always been around, but this season they are having their moment. From sparkly grips, to diamanté slides and combs, they are the chic accessory to wear. If your dress is very detailed and any other jewellery looks over the top, a pretty hair clip or slide might be the perfect finishing touch.
I found these gorgeous leaf hair clips that would look stunning in an up do with a gold or chocolate satin dress.

I hope I have inspired you to add some special evening bags, jewellery and cover ups to your Christmas capsule wardrobe. Many of them will work throughout the year for other occasions too.
