Pleated Skirts to Suit Your Shape.

Midi skirts and maxi skirts are popular this season especially those with pleats. You may think that there isn’t one to suit you, but here are my tips and suggestions for pleated skirts to suit your shape.

Pleated skirts to suit your shape

The first consideration is the fabric. The stiffer the pleats are the harder they are to wear if you have curvy hips. If you have a straight shape, knife pleats will work on you. The wave print of the skirt below will give the illusion of curves too.

Alternatively if you are more curvy, I would suggest a pleated skirt in a softer fabric like a silk or satin or, in the case below in a knit. This one would also work well with a tummy as the pleats start below the tummy area.

Your next consideration is length. If you want to elongate your legs, choose a skirt and shoes in the same colour.

To lengthen your body, if you are short waisted, wear a longer length top or jacket. As shown with this pink skirt.

The skirt below would work well if you are longer in the legs and want to give the illusion of elongating the body. Wear a top untucked and the bands around the hem will shorten the leg length.

If you are petite, you can still wear a longer length skirt, just keep your top and shoes or boots the same colour as the skirt to give a continuous column of colour.

One other tip about length; don’t finish the skirt on the widest part of the leg. Look for the indent just below the knee or just below the calf and choose a skirt that finishes here.

Finally colour. If you don’t want your hips to be the focus point, choose a dark colour for the skirt and add a brighter or printed top. Add one in animal print as shown with the black skirt below.

Alternatively if you have slim hips draw attention to them with a brighter colour or print, like this beautiful floral skirt.

Here are some suggestions for outfits for casual, work and evening looks using the pleated skirt I have bought this season. It is a gorgeous knitted version with a lovely swish and because it is knitted it works well on my curves ūüôā It also comes in grey if you don’t want to wear black.
