How to Wear Black to Suit Your Colouring

As you know I love wearing colour but neutrals are essential in a capsule wardrobe as they will go with all of the coloured pieces. If you have been colour analysed you may have been told not to wear black. I always try not to dictate, instead I recommend colours that might be more flattering. But if you love it and want to wear it, I thought I would show you how to wear black to suit your colouring.

This coming Friday my daughter and many of her fellow students in Cambridge are wearing black in order to express their solidarity for victims of sexual harassment. So Liz and I  thought we would join them too. Below I have suggested how to wear black to suit your colouring and Liz and I have shown how we will be wearing it on Friday.

I have started with a pair of black jeans as this is something you may have in your wardrobe. Black jeans in a straight cut are smarter than blue denim, so they could be an option for relaxed work days as well as the weekend.

If possible choose a top with a scoop or V neck in black, then it isn’t too close to your face. In each case below I have added a coloured cardigan and a scarf to lift the black and bring a flattering colour up to the face. For each Dominant colouring I have also shown a second outfit with a better (or for Deep and Bright who can wear black, alternative) neutral pair of jeans and an accent T-shirt.
