I’m sure you have heard the word Hygge (pronounced hue-guh not hoo-gah) but do you know what it means? I had a vague image of a cosy fire, snuggled up in loungewear with a hot chocolate.
It seems that it isn’t a thing, more a feeling of cosiness, contentedness or comfort. The Danes created it as a way to get through their cold dark winters. However, I always think of minimalism and white space when I think about Scandinavian style, which for me doesn’t give me a feeling of comfort or cosiness. So I have given Hygge my own interpretation and below are some of my picks for creating that feeling in your home.
How to create Hygge in your home
Cosy blankets and throws are essential. Not just for the bed, but to curl up in a chair with your favourite book.
Candles create a feeling of comfort and you can choose a scent to relax or revive you.
A cashmere robe is the height of luxury, or choose one in a soft velour.
Cold feet certainly won’t give you the feeling of Hygge, so a pair of socks or pretty slippers are essential.
Shop socks and slippers:
Add a hot water bottle under your blanket for extra warmth.
