Over the last year or so I have been giving my skin a lot more attention and trying out some new brands and products. Some I have loved instantly and others have taken some time to become favourites. Along with using more products I have also been drinking more water – my skin suffers from dehydration which makes foundation sit on the skin rather than blending – to plump my skin out and, since Liz has joined me, my diet is much healthier. We typically have fruit and yoghurt for breakfast and a large salad for lunch. I have really noticed a difference to my skin, it looks much brighter, has more of a glow and I don’t have too much of an issue with wrinkles – they are mostly around my eyes and I call those smile lines! I’m not sure which of the products and healthier diet have made the biggest difference, maybe it’s just a combination of them and just giving my skin more love. I figured that as my skin has got me to 50 without too many issues it deserves to be treated better.
Here are the products I am currently using (some are pricey but they do last a long time):
The first thing I have realised is that you need to get your skin really clean. For many years I used face wipes to remove my makeup and it was only when I tried a proper cleanser I saw that I hadn’t been doing a good enough job of cleansing. I now use 3 products for my cleansing/exfoliating routine.
At night I use the Colleen Rothschild cleansing balm which I rub into the skin, then use a hot muslin cloth pressed against the skin, before removing the cleanser with the cloth. I was given this product in Dallas by the CR team and although it used to be sold online in the UK it currently isn’t. However you can get a similar product from Eve Lom here or Clinique here which I will probably swap to when this runs out, as I really like using a cleansing balm.
In the morning I use the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water – this is cheap as chips and lasts ages – to remove any thing I missed from the previous night and freshen up my skin. Two or three times I week I exfoliate with Ven Effect Micro Exfoliant.
For specific night time treatments I rotate 3 products.
I love the Clinique moisture surge products because they are great for dehydrated skin without being to thick, so my first night product is the Moisture Surge Overnight Mask. If I have had a particularly busy time and am really tired I will use the This Works No Wrinkles Night Repair Serum instead. Finally when I want to top up the colour on my face I use Charlotte Tilbury Overnight Bronze and Glow Mask (also mentioned here).
For daytime moisture and care I have 4 products.
Before moisturising I use the By Terry Cellulose Liftessence Oil Elixir (this is expensive but you only need a few drops of this magic potion).
For morning moisturising, before applying makeup, I either use Clinique Moisture Surge Gel, which adds hydration, but because it is a gel it doesn’t feel too heavy, or if I want a slightly thicker consistency, I use the Balance Me Restore and Replenish Face Cream.
For my eyes, which suffer with dark circles, I am using Decleor Aurabsolu specifically for treating dark circles and adding a glow.
It may seem like a lot of products, but I don’t use them all everyday and I am really enjoying the routine of pampering my skin, especially at night time as it helps me to wind down before I go to bed.
Do you have any products you swear by? Especially if you have a good one for sun damage I would love to hear your suggestions.
