For those readers outside of the UK, you may not be aware that most of the country is sweltering in an Indian Summer with temperatures up to 30 degrees. Like the odd days in winter when we have a huge snow drop, we really don’t handle it well. And our wardrobes struggle too. We now seem to have so few days at either end of the temperature scale that snow boots and skimpy sundresses don’t see the light of day very often. So what are the key items that you can wear throughout the year and that shouldn’t get packed away when the season changes? Over the next few weeks I will be featuring items that will work hard in your capsule wardrobe whatever the season.
This week I am starting with the Jersey Dress
I am a huge fan of the jersey dress because they are easy and comfortable to wear, don’t crease for travelling and are almost always machine washable (unless they are a silk jersey but these can often be washed on the hand wash programme of your machine) Choose a dress in a medium weight that you can layer under and over, one that will be comfortable on all but the hottest few days of summer. If it contains some elastane it will also keep its shape.
For this example I’ve chosen a stripe dress from Hobbs.
For the 30 degree temperatures we have seen over the last week this would be a little to warm but for a typical British Spring or Summer day it would be perfect with the addition of a cardigan on cooler days. For Autumn wear a heavier knit, add and ankle boot and maybe a pair of wool tights.
For Winter layer up with this season’s must have knit, the polo neck, then add a cosy parka and boots. One bonus addition – how to wear it for work.
