With a new season just around the corner and Autumn stock already arriving it’s time to think about your Autumn capsule wardrobe. For some of my monthly wardrobe clients I am already selecting early Autumn pieces, especially on those items I know will sell through quickly. So how do you start planning what to invest in? I start well before the season with research into the key trends and colours, although there are some pieces and colours I know will be “in” every Autumn/Winter. For example, the more earthy and warm colours appear at the beginning of Autumn and as we get into Winter more jewel colours, velvet and lace will come in for the party season.
As always I will be here to help you with blog posts planned for September about trends and colours and for those who are members of the Style Club, September’s magazine will be full of the key new season ideas to buy into to suit your colouring and body shape and how to wear them for real women rather than models on a catwalk. There will also be a brand new Autumn capsule wardrobe released (like the Summer capsule but with the additions you have requested including petite sizes) and of course you can check out Pinterest, Facebook, Instagram and Youtube for daily updates.
But for now you might want to start doing some of your own research. A great way to do this (and often get an “in the know” discount) is to sign up to the newsletters of your favourite brands and websites. For example today I have received my newsletter from the Hobbs Together scheme (scroll down to the bottom of the page to sign up to their loyalty scheme) with 20% off the new full price collection and my Matches Fashion newsletter about what’s new and how to wear it. Rather than seeing an item shown as a cut out on the brands site you see how they style the items into outfits and can get inside the mind of the designer whose vision this collection was.
Other places to get inspiration are the monthly glossies especially the September issues which will be out next week. They will all have reports on the key trends for the Autumn season with catwalk photos. Look closely and pick out some key details, for example what shape should you look for in new season shoes, are they pointed or round toed and what type of heel appeared several times? Are jackets longer or cropped, which fabrics have you seen used frequently in more than one collection and are handbags oversized or is the mini bag still the trend to buy into?
Once you’ve got some inspiration save it to Pinterest to remind yourself, or use a tool like Evernote where you can clip screen prints and add notes. That way you won’t buy something on the spur of the moment that doesn’t go with anything else in your Autumn wardrobe.
Of course if you don’t want to think about Autumn yet (we only just got Summer after all!) just leave it to me and I will keep you posted. In the meantime, if you want me to do all of the work for you, think about getting me to find the right Autumn pieces for you with one of my capsule wardrobe services.
