What to Add to Your Capsule Wardrobe in the Sales

This week many of the online sales have started and have gone straight in with some really good bargains, in some cases up to 60%. So I thought I would round up by brand/store what I look out for, which hopefully will help you to add some gems to your capsule wardrobe.

I always start my sale shopping by checking out those higher priced pieces that I wanted when they first arrived in store but maybe didn’t have the funds for. If they are in the sale at a good discount snap them up straight away because you can always return them if you find when they arrive you don’t really love them. But if you wait and think too long about it you may go back and find they have gone.

When you visit a site to look at the sale, filter it straight away with your sizes, then you won’t waste time going through endless items that aren’t available¬†in your size (plus it saves the disappointment of clicking on an item you love and finding it’s not left in your size!)

By store/brand here are some of my top picks and what to look out for at each:

LK Bennett

The LKB sale was one of the first to start so you may now find that some items only have a few sizes left. Of course here I would always start with the shoes and bags, but then also I love their¬†showstopper dresses and skirts and contemporary tailoring. Here I’ve chosen some timeless classics and a few wow pieces but if you are a small size there is quite a lot left for you.

I love Hobbs quality! Personally I always find their shoes comfortable and they do great work and occasion wear. Oh and I love their linen and wide legged trousers too (tip their trousers come up long so if you are tall check them out) Also if you want classic court shoes have a look at the Lizzie court available in several neutrals in leather and suede.

If I am looking for a pair of soft tailored trousers or a silk top Reiss will often be the place I go to. This season their tailoring has been gorgeous, with suits in delicate blue, soft green and peach. But check out the leather and suede too, again in colours you won’t find anywhere else on the High Street and there are some lovely bags too.

If you have written off Joules as polo shirts and waterproof jackets, think again. They do some really pretty tops and scarves as well as jersey dresses and skirts. Plus they also go up to a size 20. Of course there are the fab printed wellies too, a pair of which accompany me to the yard. They tend to favour more cool based prints though.

Another brand you might think too “old” for you, but they do fantastic core basics of tailored work trousers, linen and silk tops – in fact any of their linen – plus this season they have done some great jumpsuits. And I love the new Laboratory range (one piece has crept in to my wardrobe) and their great handbags.

The two brands I head to Matches for are DVF and all the Maxmara lines (Weekend, S, Elegante and Studio). DVF dresses are a great buy in the sale as are their silk blouses and handbags (in fact their bags are a good price for a designer even at full price) Look at Maxmara for that laid back Italian luxury look and of course their legendary coats, Weekend for Italian style at a lower price and great jewellery and S Maxmara for slightly more quirky pieces. (And yes, my silk trousers shown here are in the sale, I also bought the top in the sale although not to be worn together) Both brands do gorgeous scarves too.

Check this sale out for any designers you would love to buy but can’t at full price, want to add some Jimmy Choo, Dolce & Gabbana or a pretty Temperley dress to your wardrobe? Now is the time to buy. Items tend to go pretty quickly though so don’t hang around. Designer jeans are good pick here too as are shoes and handbags.

Phase Eight

Need a dress? Then there is plenty to choose from in the Phase Eight sale. From daytime jersey to occasion and full length glamour.

I’m sure there will be more sales coming soon. House of Fraser has their big brand sale on at the moment, as does John Lewis so if you can’t find your size in one of the brands above you may well find it at HOF or JLP.

What are you hoping to find in the sales?
