What to wear in your downtime for that elusive “smart casual” look can be a dilemma, often not really solved by just throwing on the same jeans and T-shirt combination. But over the last few seasons two items have emerged to expand your casual wear and make it a little more interesting; the jumpsuit and jersey or jogger trousers. Before you dismiss them as “too young” or too casual have a look at what’s around that might work for you. I’ve shown some easy outfit combinations giving you casual, smart casual and evening looks. Below these looks are lots more options I’ve found that are age appropriate.
How to wear the jumpsuit:
From casual running around or on holiday to a smarter town version. This soft linen style will work on most body shapes. If you are hourglass cinch in the waist with a leather belt. For pear shapes the straight leg trouser balances with the shoulder line, but you could tie a sweater around the shoulders or add a chunky necklace. For the straight body shape the gentle waist shaping gives the illusion of a waistline. For apple shapes take attention away from the waistline with a long scarf to cover the tummy area. Jumpsuits are great for petites too because they give a continuous vertical line of colour.

How to wear jogger trousers:
There is nothing scruffy or gym like about these joggers. (Cuffing at the ankles can make them more casual looking, although a jersey cuffed pair still looks good with a pair of heels). Dress down with trainers or up with heels. The same principles for shape work here as with the jumpsuit.
