Sale time is here – at least for some stores and there are some really good bargains to be had. The continuing mild weather means that coats, cashmere, boots and scarves aren’t selling so they will make the best buys. The usual advice of buying classic pieces and neutral colours for your capsule wardrobe stands, and I would add buying items in one of your best accent colours and things you loved at full price but just couldn’t justify.
Here are some of my favourite finds that I would add to my capsule wardrobe.
Firstly coats – I would almost say don’t buy a coat at full price as there have been so many flash sales and those that haven’t sold by now will almost certainly go into the sale. If you are looking for an investment coat check out Matches for some great designer bargains or Jaeger and LK Bennett for great quality.
Next up on my list is a great cocktail dress – one that you can pull out for smart dinners, Christmas parties and of course cocktail parties. I would personally choose a black one or possibly a fabulous red. (If you want to know which would be your best colour for evening wear get the personalised colour dossier) I’d look for something that would normally be outside of my budget but is affordable at sale prices.
It used to be that the classics didn’t go on sale but not any more. Boots and court shoes are plentiful in this year’s sales, so again I’d recommend buying a better quality that you couldn’t normally afford. I’d opt for a neutral pair and then I’d go against traditional advice and splurge on a pair of frivolous shoes that made me smile – treat yourself this once and enjoy them every time you wear them, after all getting dressed should be fun and express who you are.
Finally accessories make your wardrobe go further changing a dress from office to evening or casual to smart so I would add a scarf (of course) a great necklace and a gorgeous clutch bag.
So yes, I would still say don’t buy something just because it’s reduced, but don’t be boring either! Use the sales as an opportunity to buy that pair of shoes that make your heart stop or that stunning evening dress.
What will you be buying in this year’s sales?
