This week I thought I would pick 5 capsule wardrobe classics. They won’t be the same for everyone, but here are the ones I’d like in my wardrobe. I’ve chosen two of each of my five picks because, although as classics they are worth investing in, we all have different budgets, so one in each pair is high end and the other high street.
Starting with a classic that hasn’t changed much for years and really is worth the investment; the camel coat. If you are looking for a life time investment then the Maxmara coat on the left is the “Rolls Royce” of camel coats. But the high street version from Cloud Nine is a good buy if you don’t have a Rolls Royce budget. Needless to say when I win the lottery I will be beating a trail to the nearest Maxmara stockist!
Next the cashmere sweater which has become so much more accessible in recent years. The sweater on the left is from Hush and the bargain version on the right is from Uniqlo; the fashion editor’s secret go to for cashmere.
Most of us have a pair of fail safe black trousers in our wardrobe. Buying an investment pair pays dividends because they can be worn for work, weekend and dressed up with a sparkly top and heels for the evening. If you are going to multitask your black trousers buy the best you can afford and follow the care instructions to prevent them from going shiny or fading. On the left from L.K. Bennett and a good budget option from Planet. (Check this week’s post on business capsule wardrobe trousers to see which shape to go for)
Finally the accessories – Black court shoes and a carry all tote bag. L.K. Bennett do beautiful classic courts but if they are out of your price range the Dune pair on the right are excellent value at £65, cheaper by £105 then the L.K.Bennetts! I’ve gone for a brown tote just because that’s what works best for me but it could be black, navy, grey or neutral. On the left from Aspinal and on the right at a quarter of the price from Michael Kors.
What would you pick as your 5 wardrobe classics?
