If you’ve been a reader for a while you may remember just over a year ago I had a reader ask the question “Can I wear trousers to a wedding?” In her case she had two weddings coming up and didn’t want to buy two outfits she would never wear again. You can see what I suggested here.
So why revisit the question? Well it seems it’s one that is often asked if Google searches are anything to go buy. It might not be for the reason of my earlier reader – some women just don’t like dresses or prefer to keep their legs covered. I think with so many weddings now being held outside of a church, it has become much easier to wear trousers. If it’s a formal church wedding though you may just want to check with the bride, but even then I think some of the options below would work.
As always my advice is to buy something that can be worn again so you get maximum cost per wear. So below I’ve given wedding outfit options and styling ideas for wearing again after.
This pretty floral top and trousers are perfectly dressy enough for a wedding with a coat and hat in a soft neutral and heels and bag in bright pink. Wear the trousers again throughout the summer with cream accessories and ballet flats or for evenings out with the matching top. The top works under jackets or as shown here for a summer day or on holiday.
This lime green jacket and cream trousers would be hard working additions to your work wear and more dressy wardrobe. Together, mixed with champagne accessories and a bright silk camisole, they would happily take you to a wedding and other formal occasions.
A modern take on the trouser suit just needs a large hat, clutch bag and open toed heels. The trousers could be worn dressed down at the weekend with a simple T-shirt or up as shown here with silver accessories for dinner. The jacket will sit happily with your work wear, here teamed with grey and pink, but would work just as well with a navy or black dress and accessories.
Do you prefer trousers? Would you wear them to a wedding – I definitely would (although I love an excuse to put on a dress!)
