If like me you love the beginning of a new season and seeing the new trends and styles coming into the shops this is for you. I know we are only just having summer but I do get a thrill from Autumn more than Spring. The boots, cosy cashmere, winter coats, jackets and dresses get me excited.
L.K. Bennett have been adding new lines to their online store for a couple of weeks now – some of which I saw in the Spring when I was invited to their autumn preview. What struck me first was the colour palette and second the shapes, particularly the skirts. When we are putting together a capsule wardrobe we take into consideration body shape and the trend over the last few seasons for the pencil skirt isn’t kind to those with a pear shaped body so I’m delighted to see a new and very feminine skirt shape that will work for many.
So a small preview of some of these new trends as interpreted by L.K. Bennett:
The colour palette has a refined British heritage feel to it with deep reds, teal, purple and what I would call British Racing Green (I once had a car in exactly this colour!) with a few bright pops of cobalt and pink. More about pink in the weeks to come – it will be the biggest colour trend of the autumn!
A sub trend of the colour palette is mixing black and blue which I love, it’s incredibly stylish. And if you are deep colouring like me you can mix black and navy too.
Keeping with the Heritage theme tweeds and plaids will be big this autumn. I love this option of just adding a bit in a pair of shoes, or picking up on the berry colour trend and tweed trend in this shift dress. Notice the classic shape of the jackets too.
So to that new skirt shape I mentioned – the full gathered or pleated skirt falling to just below the knee or longer. So elegant especially with a fitted top or jacket, or as shown in this incredibly chic lace dress.
There will be plenty more seasonal trend updates to come, but I thought you may want to get an early look at a few.
What do you think? Do any of the new season’s colours grab you?
