Next up in our holiday series (see articles on travel bags, maxis and a versatile summer dress by clicking links) are shoes. Shoes are one of the heaviest items we pack into our case so taking pairs that can be worn with multiple outfits makes sense. Believe me in my younger days I was that person who had multiple pairs of shoes weighing down my suitcase. However, that was before I developed my simple capsule system that still gives you loads of different outfits but doesn’t illicit groans and frowns from your travel companion at the weight of your bag!
Here are my suggestions for 3 pairs of footwear that should cover every holiday occasion:
1. The Neutral Wedge – I find wedges much easier to walk in than heels and a pair with a rope wedge just says “summer” to me. Look for a pair that works with the base neutral of the outfits you are taking with you (more to come about this in future weeks). In the example I’m showing below I’ve gone for a pair of mushroom coloured peep toe wedges from Hobbs. They work with trousers, skirts, dresses and maxis for daytime sightseeing and night time dining.
2. A Pair of coloured flip flops – I’ve gone for a bright orange “jelly” pair from Michael Kors to match the swimwear. Because they are more luxe with their gold trim than a basic pair of flip flops they can be worn away from the beach or pool making the dresses and trousers more casual and laid back.
3. A pair of metallic flats – These always look gorgeous with a tan day or night and are perfect with a maxi dress for the evening with some chunky jewellery. I’ve chosen a pair of gold flats from LK Bennett, which also work with the short dress and trouser outfit for the evening too.
So here is your challenge – will you be packing your suitcase with just 3 pairs of shoes?
