How to Wear Summer Skirts

The skirt is rather an overlooked item in many wardrobes – including my own. I love them but in the winter I’d rather not bother with the hassle of tights and unlike dresses it’s a case of putting together a whole outfit rather than just one piece. In the summer though with bare tanned legs (fake in my case) they are much more comfortable and cooler than trousers. As we experienec some long awaited spring sunshine I am enjoying the first skirt minus tights wear of the season!

Getting the right style for your figure isn’t that complicated either just remember the golden rule; if you have curves, shapes that are fluid and softer or fabrics with stretch will work better. Softer jersey fabrics without a waistband will also be more forgiving.

For those who are the great British Pear Shape, A-line or tulip styles will work better. If you find that the waistband is too big when you get a style to fit the hips your best option is to get the waistband taken in.

Here are a couple of catwalk looks and styling tips to recreate them on the High street.

How to wear print skirt

The pencil skirt never dates – this season it comes in print, often bright. If you love showing off your shape wear with pride, if not avoid print and draw the eye up with a necklace.

Make a pattern A-line skirt more every day by losing the matching top and adding a tonal one instead.

I love this new lantern shape skirt especially this metallic version from Eileen Fisher, forgiving if you have bigger thighs. White top to toe is never easy but it looks so fresh especially paired with these white embroidered heels from LK Bennett.

Here are a few more suggestions for you to look out for this season:

So break out the summer skirt this weekend!

Tanned bare legs? What product do you use for fake tan? Or do you go to a beauty salon for it? I have tried a few, but they all make me smell like suntan lotion for several days – especially the cheaper ones, but even the really expensive ones I’ve tried have made me feel silly, as I’m nowhere near a beach ( I won’t dare to use it in winter).

Hi Marle, I have had a salon tan but not recently, I had the St tropez spray tan which was good but was also quite dark. I do use their moisturiser which contains a self tan called St Tropez Every Day because it is gradual and builds up slowly without looking too false.
