It’s always worth investing in individual pieces that will be the foundations of your business wear capsule wardrobe. Better to buy one perfect dress that can do formal work wear, evening glamour and smart casual than 3 cheaper items that get worn only a couple of times. When you’ve found that special item wear it regularly (fashion maths – cost per wear!) don’t leave it in the wardrobe for “best”.
Here are a few investment core capsule pieces that caught my eye:
A long sleeve jersey dress is a perfect capsule wardrobe piece. Easy to just throw on, add a pair of court shoes and a necklace and you are ready. This gathered style suits most body shapes too with the gathers cleverly hiding the area most of us want to conceal! The vibrant red Alice Temperley dress and the teal DKNY dress would look gorgeous for an evening event with metallic shoes too. The patterned Michael Micheal Kors dress could be worn with boots and a chunky knit jacket for the weekend.
A neat little crop jacket never dates even though the monochrome Milly Jacket (centre) is bang up to date for the black and white trend this season. All of these would look equally good with jeans or casual trousers as they would with a pencil skirt or a tailored trouser for a mismatched suit. See below for dressing them down.
Timeless classics in navy and cream – a neutral shoe will take you through the summer months for all occasions and this Diane von Furstenberg pair are fun too. A navy tote (Michael Micheal Kors) will pay it’s way in your wardrobe for work and weekend. Finally I couldn’t do a post without a scarf (scarf-a-holic tendency) and I’m coveting this doodle love scarf also from Diane von Furstenberg (sadly not the right colours for me though) it’s a great way to accessorise your fun personality.
