I love the build up to Christmas, planning the food and the presents and most of all when term ends and my girls are at home with me. It’s been a long time since we’ve spent Christmas day anywhere but home with guests coming to us, and that’s the way I like it. Surrounded by my husband and girls and a group of very good friends we eat and drink well and enjoy doing not much else except opening presents and watching the Christmas TV specials.
So this year I’ve put together a fantasy Christmas day courtesy of the Christmas section on the John Lewis website.
The day probably starts around 8am and it’s highly likely that I will be the first one up – our children no longer wake at 5am, now they are teenagers they value their sleep more. So I’d pad down to make the tea in gorgeous silk pajama trousers and silk trim top from Toast, a luxury velour robe and the ultimate comfort and warmth slippers from Just Sheepskin. After breakfast of Bucks Fizz, scrambled eggs and Christmas coffee I’ll put the turkey in the oven and head off to indulge in a shower with my favourite products from L’Occitane – I’d probably treat myself to this Verbena gift set for Christmas morning.
As the morning progresses I would set the table – I like to have a colour theme of red and gold and I’ve added some white as well. First off a a red tablecloth with snowflake pattern next I’d add Gold bead place mats, beautiful white and gold Celeste china, gold beaded flower knapkin rings with red and gold knapkins. Finally each place would have a snowflake cracker and Silver snowflake glass to toast the festivities. I’d also make sure I had the scent of Christmas in the house from John Lewis winter spice gel candles and 3 wick candle.
Once the table is ready and the food is well on it’s way I’d head upstairs to pile on the party glamour. In keeping with the gold theme I’ve gone for a gorgeous silk cowl neck gold blouse from LK Bennett and a Black lace skirt also by LK Bennett, both from a selection of part wear at John Lewis. I’d finish off with flattish gold shoes by Kurt Geiger. You can’t go wrong with indulgent red nails and lips for Christmas lunch and a bit of eye sparkle!
After lunch we have the grand present opening and as this is a fantasy day I’ve selected a few things I would love if money were no object. Unsurprisingly it includes all those girlie loves of cashmere, jewellery, handbags and for me of course – as I am a scarf-a-holic – a scarf.
All items from John Lewis gifts as follows:Cashmere cardigan/coat from Gerard Darel, Lauren by Ralph Lauren Equestrian Wool Snood, LK Bennett Rita Boots, Smokey Quartz gold earrings by Cobra & Bellamy and chocolate Mulberry Bayswater bag.
Would any of this appeal to you? I’d love to know what your fantasy day would be. Whatever you do I hope it’s a good one for you.
