Does The Perfect T-Shirt Really Exist?

I’m sure like most women I spend an awful lot of time hunting down those clothing basics that make up the backbone of the perfect capsule wardrobe: black trousers, knitwear, ballet flats, everyday tote and the perfect T-shirt. What is my criteria for the perfect T?

  • seams that don’t twist
  • fabric that doesn’t bobble
  • enough stretch that it doesn’t bag
  • softness

So it comes as no surprise that when I saw a T-shirt described as perfect I had to try it, and better yet on a special offer I could buy two for the price of one. Let me introduce you to the Isabella Oliver Perfect Long Sleeve T. I placed my order and waited in anticipation – I was impressed even before they arrived by the friendly emails I received from ‘The Girls at Isabella Oliver’. For me it’s also about the buying experience, I can’t bear pushy sales people but even worse are those who can’t even be bothered!

They arrived beautifully packed in tissue paper. I had been a little boring and just chosen the black and white – a great white T shirt is the hardest of all to find, many are too thin and are really unflattering if they are too tight. As soon as I took the white one out I knew it was going to be ‘perfect’. A good length – my age and figure are past the crop T – gorgeous weight and drape with a very slight sheen and incredibly soft. I had gone up a size because in many stores I find I need to in a T-shirt. These however, were generous and I think next time I would try the size down but for a black and white basic I like the idea of them not being too fitted especially with the longer length.

Made from 95% viscose and 5% elastane when I washed them as per the instructions they went back into shape, retained their softness, and needed little ironing.

Does the perfect T exist? For me, yes – this is probably as close as it gets – a great year round basic. Now I just need to add the khaki and french navy and several of the short sleeve version too! Thanks Isabella Oliver.
