The perfect capsule wardrobe should have items in it that you can quickly throw together, add a few accessories and you are ready to go for whatever the event. There will be pieces that might not get worn as much on a day to day basis, but you know they are there ready when you need them. For me one of those items is a silk blouse. I wear mine with tailored trousers for a smarter look or with jeans or leggings (as long as the blouse is long enough) for more casual evenings or occasions.
I am always on the look out for blouses to add to my collection and will usually add one each season so that I have a few to choose from when the occasion arises. This season as part of my partnership with Pure Collection, I chose this gorgeous Oyster silk blouse (also available here in sizes 8-20) and there are several reasons why I love it. Firstly it is long, which means I can wear it with trousers or more fitted leggings and the length gives it beautiful movement. Secondly the fabric, it is a lovely satin finish on one side and the weight of the fabric is what gives it its gorgeous drape.
Thirdly the details, it has very delicate gathers on the shoulder making it perfect for a full bust and the bishop sleeve detail makes it up to date but equally won’t date it.
Finally, it can be washed – one of the criteria I always look for in a silk blouse – so no expensive dry cleaning bills.
I love mixing up textures, so for dinner on Saturday night with friends, I paired it with a pair of Ponte and Leather panel trousers (about 3 years old from Pure Collection!). I thought pearl jewellery worked perfectly with the satin and I finished with a pair of Don’t Wait Up heels from 18 Hour Heels with a contrasting flower detail.
These shoes are brilliant if you struggle with heels as I do, because you really can wear them all night. They were very kindly gifted earlier in the year and I think I will be wearing them a lot over the party season with the Dream Then Do shoellery . Plus they are doing some good too – read about their Heels with Purpose campaign that supports women around the world.
Do you love a silk blouse and have you found a brand that you think does them well?
