What takes an outfit from nice to something more special or interesting? Answer: The little details you add that are unique to you. Maybe it’s a favourite scarf, or perhaps a pair of shoes with a decorative buckle. It could be the way you mix colours, or textures. Whatever your favourite details are, they are what add your personality to your outfit.
Here are some examples from my wardrobe. I like a contemporary classic look and I love luxurious textures, metallics, patent, pearls and feminine touches.
For me a sweater is unfinished without something at the neck, whether that is a scarf, piece of jewellery or in this case a layering shirt with frills and the added bonus of cuff detail too. With the frill details I have just added a pair of pearl earrings.
This time the same layering shirt and because of the neutral colours the bag has chevron detailing and a heavy gold chain to add interest.
In the above example wearing a print, I have picked up on one of the print colours for the bag and necklace. The shine on the beads ties in with the patent handbag.
Wearing the same sweater as the first picture but this time with a scarf. There is quite a lot of detail going on here; the patent bag and shoes, multiple straps on the shoes and the buttons on the bottom of the trousers. So I have keep the pieces streamlined and stuck to two main colours.
Jewellery is also kept simple with my watch, a silver bracelet and pearl earrings that pick up on the colour of the trousers.
Collecting accessories or clothing items with a detail you love makes your wardrobe so much more interesting and as you build these details in, you will find you can create more and more outfit options.
What are the details you use? I hope I have given you some ideas.
