Is a Leather Jacket Worth the Investment?

Is a leather jacket worth the investment? And as a woman over a certain age can you still wear one? The answers are yes and yes! There is a jacket for all of us out there because there are so many options to choose from, both in colour and shape. So if you have shied away from trying one, here are some outfit ideas that show that you can wear a leather jacket both for smart events and more casual ones. It could become a core item in your capsule wardrobe.

If you are curvy look for the softest leather you can find that will ease over your curves. On the other hand if you are small busted and don’t have a waist you can choose a more boxy shape. As far as colour is concerned, it’s up to you. If you want to make sure you can wear your investment jacket as much as possible, choosing a neutral like navy, black or brown will ensure you get good cost per wear. However, if you want this to be a statement piece choose one in one of your best accent colours, a red or pink could look fantastic.

Below I have chosen a navy, edge to edge jacket and shown you 4 ways to wear it:

How to wear a leather jacket

Look 1 – Jacket // Blouse // Skirt // Bag // Shoes // Look 2 – Knit top // Necklace // Trousers // Bag // Shoes //

Look 3 – Sweater // Scarf // Skirt // Bag // Boots // Look 4 – Blouse // Trousers // Bag // Shoes //

As an alternative here is a classic biker jacket in a light neutral worn with a dress, giving you more options than just jeans with your biker jacket, though obviously that’s a great way to wear it too. The other outfit has a crossover front jacket with a frill down the zip, this one would need a small bust to pull it off, or wear it with the zip half open and folded back.

If none of these options are for you, below I have rounded up some more great jackets.

Very timely article as I purchased a great faux leather jacket yesterday for £7.99 in a charity shop! Its a Giorgio Asda but its slightly padded, making it warmer and it is machine washable too. The colour is a muted cool brown.
