Each season has it’s trends and must have fashion items but there are pieces that I know I will wear every summer, so I make sure I have them in my summer capsule wardrobe and replace them as they get old, or with new colours.
Here are the items I rely on every summer…
A new find for me this year are these capri pants from Winser. They have a satiny finish which makes them a little smarter, a little bit of stretch and they wash well. They also have a flat front and side zip which is perfect if you have a less than flat tummy.

White jeans can be dressed up for the evening or down for the day time and go with just about everything. This season I am wearing this crop pair from last summer and a new boyfriend style (see last week’s white jeans blog).

I love silk trousers in the summertime for both day and evening. When it’s really hot they make a lightweight layer so they are perfect for holidays but you can wear them for summer weddings too. These are by Weekend Maxmara from last summer and I have another pair from the summer before. There is a version from this season in the options below.

A pair of light trousers (white, ivory or cream) make a dressy day or evening outfit. Palazzo styles look gorgeous for the evening teamed with a silk top. These are from Eileen Fisher in a jersey crepe straight leg style and I know I will wear them again and again with a variety of tops.

Jersey dresses are a summer must have. They are so easy to wear when it’s hot with a pair of sandals or with a cardigan or denim jacket on cooler days. They also travel well so they make an ideal holiday piece.

Linen knits are a wardrobe staple for the summer as they add a light layer – great for going from the heat to an air conditioned building. Look for cotton and featherweight cashmere (like mine above) too.

My summer “uniform” consists of slim leg trousers or capris and sleeveless longline tops. I then add the aforementioned knit for cooler days. Each season I will add some new colours and styles.

I like my sunglasses in classic black or tortoiseshell and tend to stick to just one or two pairs so I am happy to pay for something special like these from Gucci. But there is such a huge selection at all price points so if you prefer a colour choose something you feel good in.
I rarely wear heels any more but a summer wedge sandal is a must have when I want height and comfort. A classic tan or neutral with go with everything in your wardrobe.

Colourful Tote bag
Summer is the time to add some brighter pops of colour to my wardrobe so a handbag is one of the options I choose, especially if the rest of my outfit is neutrals.
Shop colourful tote bags – of course the best place to look is Capsule Accessories 🙂
These are my staple items, I don’t really wear skirts much so you might want to swap out one of the pairs of trousers for a summer skirt if that works better for you. Other items you might add are a sundress or a maxi dress – I do have these but they tend to be more holiday items for me rather than being part of my core summer wardrobe that I wear everyday. Are there any other summer staples you rely on every year?
