How to Get a Summer Glow

In preparation for the beautiful weather we are enjoying this week, I’ve been working on a summer glow. And I have found a few products which have made it both easy and a pleasure!

First of all, what I think is probably the best self tanning product I have ever used! It’s called Phenomenal and believe me it is. If, like me, you are a little scared of self tanning products I promise you this will change all of that. I have two reasons for being hesitant about fake tan. The first is, having seen many an accidental orange stripe or strangely coloured foot, I just don’t want it to look fake. The second is that I only remembered after having a professional tan done before my trip to Dallas, that a certain cult product made me itch, not good when you are out in the heat of a Dallas day.

Brown feet with no streaks!

So I approached this experiment apprehensively. It claims to last several weeks if you apply it 3 times. I used a tanning mitt to spread it on and it dries almost instantly so you can dress or as in my case go straight to bed. The next morning I woke up with the most realistic fake tan I have ever had and not a streak in sight, despite not being that careful about the application. Although I did just gently rub over heels, elbows, knees and wrists with a flannel to take off any excess from areas which tend to be drier.

The second product I have been using is Perfect Legs Skin Miracle, but I’ve been using it on my arms too. Because it is slightly tinted it enhances any colour you have while diminishing any imperfections and moisturising at the same time.

As far as my face is concerned I’ve been using a couple of other products which have justifiable cult followings. First a product that has been around for a while but is new to me. I was very kindly gifted a set of skin care products from Colleen Rothschild while I was in Dallas. I have been wanting to try their Radiant Cleansing Balm since I heard about it last year. Everyone who uses it seems to rave about it and having now tried it myself I can see why.

It has been designed to clear congested pores and impurities. For some time now I have felt that my skin was dull and have tried a few exfoliating products. The problem is I forget to use them and don’t really enjoy them. This balm is different though, because I have started to use it as a regular part of my cleansing routine and it feels like you are having a mini facial. After massaging it into the skin, you soak and wring out the muslin cloth that comes with it in hand hot water and press it onto the skin for a few seconds, then use it to remove the balm. The first time I used it I honestly wanted to run downstairs to my husband to show him how amazingly smooth and clear my skin looked – I stopped myself though, he probably wouldn’t have noticed the difference! However, the next morning with no prompting Liz told me my skin was glowing and wanted to know what I had done.

On to the other two facial products. First a new one from Charlotte Tilbury which you may have seen mentioned on 1 or a hundred blog or Instagram posts 🙂 Another self tan product but this time for the face, the Overnight Bronze and Glow Mask. It suggests you build the colour over 1 to 3 nights and I have to admit that after the first application I didn’t really notice much of a difference. By the 3rd application though I had and that’s why I like this product, it’s subtle. There is no drastic change so you can build your tan to the level you want and as an added bonus it is hydrating too.

My final glow making product is this stunning Sun Designer palette from By Terry. It comes in 2 colour ways, I have the Savannah Love palette – the Tropical Sunset palette is a little more intense with deeper and brighter colours. I use the three larger colours on the right swirled together with a bronzing brush as a bronzer and the 3 colours on the left as blusher.

Finally a spritz Of Tom Ford Mandarino Di Amalfi and slick of Chanel’s Lip Crayon and I could just be soaking up the sun in the Med rather than my back garden! Time for a glass of Prosecco I think.

Have you tried any of these products? What did you think?
