Last week we held our first Style Event – there are plenty more being planned if you missed out – and what a fantastic day it was. This is a long picture heavy post with links to almost everything shown at the end. Grab a coffee or a glass of wine and be there with us on the day.
The planning started many months ago, looking for a venue, brainstorming what to include and
asking (begging) some good fashion friends for treats to include in the goodie bags.
Our venue was the stunning Pennyhill Park in Surrey and when the day arrived the beautiful sunshine showed it off at it’s absolute best!
The day before was spent packing up the goodie bags and finalising my many notes – I had so much information to deliver and didn’t want to forget anything!
Thank you to Simon at Very Exclusive who very generously arranged a 30% discount for our attendees as well as putting me in touch with the lovely team at BalanceMe who gave us a gorgeous Super Moisturising Hand Cream. To Pure Collection for providing the lovely Pompom keyring and Works with Water for the Help Beautify Skin Supplements.
We were also given a gift card for each attendee and a stunning necklace and earring set for our raffle from Eternal Collection – thank you so much for your generosity!
The picture doesn’t do it justice it shimmered beautifully and was such a brilliant choice as it suits all colouring.
Another huge thank you goes to Shaherazad from 18HourHeels who very kindly provided discount cards (and chocolates, she knows the way to a girls heart) These shoes are simply brilliant both in design and wear. Described as Heels with Purpose, profits from sales provide women and girls living in poverty with opportunities for educational and financial independence. One pair of shoes has many “faces” with their unique concept of Shoellery, which I love because they work brilliantly in a Capsule Wardrobe and give great cost per wear. Check out all the details of how to wear them and about the story behind the brand as Sharherazad says it so much better than me. Thank you so much for gifting me with the first pair of heels I really can wear all day!
So on to the day…
We arrived at 10 o’clock to delicious pastries, tea and coffee before getting into the important subject of colour. Whilst many of the attendees knew their best colours there were some who had either been misdiagnosed, some that were confused and some that just weren’t sure. After explaining the theory behind how colour works, how to spot each of the dominant colour characteristics and where you might get confused each table then worked together to decide on the colour dominants of each of their group. We then refined it further to determine each person’s secondary characteristic, how their personality can influence how they wear colour and whether your best colours change as you get older or with a change of hair colour.
After coffee it was on to makeup. We discussed the concept of a capsule makeup bag and what it should include dependant on whether you love makeup like me – the girl with a capsule makeup suitcase! – or whether you like a quick and easy, natural look.
We talked products, including your 3 perfect lipsticks, techniques and the must have tools.
Then it was on to lunch in the Brasserie, with hot and cold buffets and a few sweet treats, which of course had to be Instagrammed!
After lunch I did a demonstration of a capsule wardrobe which I think is best illustrated by packing it into a bag that you can use as hand luggage.
The audience couldn’t believe how many items were coming out of the bag or that I could create at least 20 outfits from what was inside.
If you carefully co-ordinate what you pack with a base of neutral colours – here I used Chocolate and Cream – and add a couple of prints and accents – Emerald Turquoise and Salmon – and some must have accessories, the pieces mix and work together to create multiple outfits.
In the bag were: 9 tops, 6 pairs of trousers, 3 dresses, 3 cardigan/coverups, 3 pairs of shoes, 2 scarves, 3 necklaces and an evening bag. I also had a tote bag which included an envelope clutch for use as a document wallet for travel and then as a clutch bag. Yes it really all did go in the bag below – video coming to show you how.
After that it was time for everyone to do some soul searching. We did an exercise, which several of the attendees went on to finish at home, on exploring your personality and whether you are reflecting it in what you wear. It generated some AHA moments and interesting discussion.
To wind up the day we introduced CapsuleAccessories so that we could talk about how to accessorise and make your outfits individual. There was also a request for some scarf tying with a few willing models.
Yes Alana you can wear yellow!
Maree discovered that Deep, Cool and Bright colours looked fabulous on her.

Thank you once again to everyone who attended or helped us with the day. To Liz for keeping on top of the arrangements, the flowers for the tables and being my chauffeur, Aitch for helping out on the day and Pennyhill Park for the gorgeous venue. I hope if you came you enjoyed the day and took lots of tips away with you. We are putting together a schedule of further events so make sure you stay tuned for dates and venues.
