Many of the blogs and YouTube accounts I follow have a monthly favourites post about what they have been using or buying that they enjoyed and as I love seeing what others recommend I thought you might enjoy seeing what I am trying, using and love. So here is my first monthly favourites post.
Starting with a necklace I bought in the sale at Hobbs. A statement necklace is ideal for adding a stylish finishing touch to a simple outfit. In fact this one has elevated my simple T-shirt and crop jeans or capris to something a little more interesting and has been my regular choice as you can see below.
As far as those T-shirts are concerned my favourites this month have been the Jaeger linen T-shirts which again I bought in two colours in the sale; Orange (above) and Ivory. Why do I like them so much? They are a loose fit (good for concealing a tummy) really soft to wear and wash beautifully. You might balk at spending £50 on a T-shirt, which was their original price, but at £25 or £35 which they now are, I think they are a really good buy as they are so much more than a one summer poor quality buy. Jaeger still have some sizes in both these colours as well as Navy and Light Blue.
I have really embraced the wide leg crop trouser this season – if you follow me on Instagram you will have seen several pairs, from the Silk ones I wore on my last night in Dallas to a pair of bargain jeans. But not surprisingly, if you know my favourite brands, the pair I have loved wearing this summer are from Eileen Fisher. They are really nothing fancy, a simple shape, as are most of the Eileen Fisher collection, but just the perfect length, width and fabric. Made from an Organic cotton seersucker they wash beautifully and are incredibly comfortable to wear. These are one of the first pieces I will be adding to my suitcase in a couple of weeks. They are an investment, but one I was reminded was worth making when I pulled out my faithful Eileen Fisher silk dress – now four years old – when I went out for my anniversary dinner.
On now to some new beauty products I have been trying. I’m only including here products that I will be continuing to use regularly. There are others I have tried but rather than be negative about those I didn’t like I am not including them. None of these products were gifted or have been included as a paid promotion.
Firstly a new foundation and one I have been meaning to try for some time and was finally convinced to go ahead and buy after seeing another review of it – Armani Maestro Glow. It is described as a nourishing fusion makeup bi-phase elixir. What this actually means is that it contains no water but has a high concentration of oils, meaning that it is skin care as well as makeup. You need to give it a good shake before you apply it and it does come out of the dropper very runny, so beware. Now I have to admit that the first time I used it I applied it really quickly and wondered what all the fuss was about. However, the second time I applied it I took more time to blend it and layer it. You can start with a really thin veil of product and add and blend until you get the coverage you want. Once I had done that I was converted. Although it dries matte – despite the oils – it really does give the skin a lovely healthy glow. It also lasted really well and contains an SPF of 30 so it’s great for everyday protection.
I have been hunting for a bronzer for several weeks because I wanted one that had a slight shimmer to it rather than a matte finish. I was tempted by one by Tom Ford but you really have to take a deep breath before purchasing because they are pricey. Others that caught my eye were by Hourglass and Estee Lauder but I finally settled on the brand that introduced us to the bronzer, Guerlain. They do several every year but the one I went for was the Terra Magnifica. What a stunning product! Firstly it is huge, so while it is more expensive than some other bronzers it comes in a larger than normal reusable tin. It contains two colours; the best selling number 03 which works well on most complexions to warm the skin and a sand shade that contains the slight gold shimmer I wanted. Blend the two colours together or use separately as a bronzer and highlighter. Finally it smells gorgeous too with notes of Freesia and Orange Blossom.
Finally this is one of those products you may wonder if you actually need and I have to admit this was my first thought. However, once you have used it you are hooked! It’s the Lancome Cils Booster XL. As you can see from the picture it is like a mascara but it’s white. Again it was a review that persuaded me to buy it. The fact that it conditions the lashes wasn’t what swung it for me, it was what it did to the length of my lashes. I have never used false eyelashes because I can’t really be bothered with the faff and I’ve always been a bit nervous being a contact lense wearer so this little gem really does give the effect of wearing false lashes. You put it on, let it dry and then apply your mascara over the top and believe me you really will see a difference. It’s probably not something you want to use every day but the problem is once you have used it and know how good it makes your lashes look it’s hard to go without it. So my apologies for adding another step to your makeup routine!
So those are my favourite products for July. Let me know in the comments below if you liked this post and would like to see a monthly roundup and if there are any products you would like me to try out. What are your current favourite fashion and beauty buys?
