As the weather turns colder (and sadly much wetter) and the Christmas adverts are featuring heavily on TV – is it just me or are they really early this year – it’s time to think about what to add to your Autumn capsule wardrobe to take it in to Winter. It may be that you want to add a new seasonal colour, some pieces for the party season, and some pieces to keep you warm and stylish.
If you want to add a new colour to an already existing capsule wardrobe I would ideally add 3-4 pieces in that colour so that it can be used with all of the neutrals you already have. Imagine a capsule that is based around neutrals of navy and charcoal, in my example here I am going to add claret. I am also adding a completely new neutral of chocolate brown.
The chocolate pieces include casual day wear and a pair of classic boots as well as some pieces for parties. The claret pieces also include day and evening items. I have also added a bit of sparkle in gold and some neutral cream knitwear. These additions will make 21 outfits alone before you take into account the pieces you already have.
So here are the coloured groups:
First the brown neutral pieces – for a whole new neutral group add at least 3 pieces including tops and bottoms and maybe a dress and accessory.
The claret pieces – accents work well in tops and accessories or a dress.
The gold and cream pieces, tops and accessories to make your bottoms work harder
And the outfits – 21 outfits from smart casual to formal.
