Is accessorising! If you are a regular reader you will know that I am a self confessed scarf-a-holic. But actually I should really extend that to being an accessories-a-holic. Accessorising well makes outfits stand out as original and reflect who you really are. When I create a Capsule Wardrobe for clients it always includes a good range of accessories because these key items make your wardrobe work so much harder.
To prove the point I’ve taken one LK Bennett dress and shown how you can wear it in different ways by changing your accessories. Every wardrobe should have a range of accessories in neutral colours as a foundation; for example a navy bag and shoes which work all year and maybe tan, cream or taupe for summer, then you can add some accent colours you love too. I’d also add here that having jackets and knits in neutral colours and some seasonal accent colours makes your dresses, suits and separates work harder too.
The dress I’ve chosen to demonstrate is a multi-coloured vintage tweed print and I’ve picked out the different colours for the accessories:
As it’s a cotton dress it can be dressed up for your work wear wardrobe and smart occasions like weddings and down for the weekends and dress down Friday.
By adding jackets in neutral colours of navy (all year) and white (summer) it becomes a multi-seasonal dress too.
More casual outfits:
You don’t have to buy all your accessories in one big hit. If you invest in quality over a number of seasons working with neutrals and colours you know suit you, your wardrobe will become more versatile.
