Whilst I am excited to see all the new spring stock arriving and am desperate to update my winter wardrobe, what we forget is that the weather could still be cold for another 3 months. I hate to mention that we had snow last Easter! So one trend that is practical but also allows you to buy into spring is the spring coat. And there are some mouthwatering options available.
First the mac – can we in the UK live without one at the moment? Actually it’s more like a sou’wester, wellies and rain hat required! Just layer some cosy cashmere underneath until we get kinder weather.
A traditional trench, Like this one from Hobbs, is high on the list for most women’s capsule wardrobe. But I’d recommend you check that the shape works for you first. The second option above from Whitestuff is both a flattering fit and flare shape as well as a great price at £95. Trenches are versatile as they look as good over jeans as they do over a work suit. Breton stripes are such a spring wardrobe staple and this mac from Boden is a chic interpretation. Finally if you want to really bring some cheer to dull wet weather this bright red mac from Boden is perfect.
Next the tailored coat.
Designed to take the place of a jacket these are appearing in many of the new spring collections. They look gorgeous with the tapered trouser for the office or dressed up with a dress for a more formal occasion – wedding, Ascot etc. Wear the first striped coat from Maxmara with other neutral coloured pieces for an expensive tone on tone look. There would be no missing you in this fabulous orange coat from LK Bennett tone it down with black or navy but I’d love it with white when the weather gets warmer. For the last option, also from LK Bennett, I would add a simple camel shift dress or tailored trousers. These coat/jackets are good for the fuller figure too.
Finally the pastel coat.
How gorgeous are these? The beautiful pale blue cocoon coat from Jigsaw would keep you warm now worn with classic navy and a cashmere scarf. The second option from Hobbs (due in soon) looks very Armaniesque to me so I’d stick with paler colours so nothing takes away from it’s beauty. Pink was huge for winter and is just as big for spring. This ultra pretty baby pink coat from Damsel in a Dress would be lovely for a wedding but I’d put it with jeans and a pair of silver flats featured last week. Finally a stone cotton coat from Boden which would be brilliant with navy and black but equally good with some of the bright colours of the season like orange and red.
And with spring colours

Will you be making a statement with a spring coat?
