With the party season just around the corner much has been written about the LBD (Little Black Dress) and there are countless options available from under £50 to over £500. It is one of those pieces that style gurus insist every woman should have in her wardrobe. But I’d say that depends on your colouring – you may prefer a LRD (Little Red Dress), LND (Little Navy Dress) or even a LWD (Little White Dress). However, what is important about this capsule wardrobe staple is it’s versatility. You may not go out shopping to look for a plain dress but I’d recommend that you do because it will earn it’s cost per wear in your wardrobe. And it allows you to be creative with your accessories.
To show you what I mean here is one LBD from Hobbs (currently reduced to £90). I’ve chosen this one because it has short sleeves, a little flattering draping and some stretch. But choose what is right for you, just make sure it fits really well and flatters your shape. I’ve styled it 4 different ways for 4 different festive events but there are countless more options. And if you choose well all you need to update it each year is a splash of seasonal colour and/or some new accessories.
The first option takes a classic dress and modernises it with seasonal plum in a must have biker jacket. Add a pair of Shoots (Shoe boots) and some coloured tights and this outfit will take you out for casual drinks.
Option 2 is more dressy, with a gold sequined jacket and ankle strap shoes the dress becomes “cocktail”.
Option 3 with splashes of red is perfect for dinner during the festive season. Make sure you add some fake tan to your legs and a bright red mani and pedi.
The final choice with this stunning silver jacquard coat would take you to a formal daytime function – possibly even a winter wedding if you added a hat.
So there you are – fashion maths at it’s best!
