Berry and plum colours are always “in” for the winter in one version or another and this season is no different. As you have probably noticed pink is one of the big trends so the berry for autumn/winter is pink toned, it’s pantone name is “vivacious”, just what we need to brighten up winter days.
Vivacious isn’t hard to wear as it isn’t too “cool”, so would suit most colouring other than those with with really warm red hair. In the shops there are plenty of variations of this colour going into deeper plum and brighter pinks.
My favourite look is to mix a plum version with navy for a sophisticated elegant combination which can be worn for work, weekend and evening. As we get nearer to the party season opt for velvet and lace and mix up the textures for a rich, luxurious look.
Phase Eight have merchanised their plum and navy pieces together and it looks fabulous. So with one of their skirts in mind I’ve put together some looks mixing the two colours. Unlike 5 or 6 years ago when it was almost impossible to find boots in any other colour than brown or black, you can now indulge in plum suede or patent navy both of which you could wear for winters to come. Below you will see three options of plum coloured boots and one pair of sumptuous velvet party shoes from LK Bennett.
Here’s my styling tips for how to wear this colour combination:
Start with a key piece like the Phase Eight skirt which mixes both colours together then pick toning pieces in solid colours and pull together with a necklace incorporating both.
For the second look brighten up the navy coat with a pop of colour at the neck and shiny leather boots.
The casual option mixes patterns in the tweed biker jacket and scarf to save the outfit from looking flat.
Finally for the evening – the lace and velvet combination to mix up the textures. With a dress this detailed a necklace would be too much so add adornment with a pair of coloured earrings and jewelled shoes (which by the way Father Christmas I would love, size 7 – but you will need to buy now as they are sure to sell out!)
Give the plum and navy combination a try and add some “vivacious” to your winter wardrobe.
