Next up in our “what to pack for your holiday” series is that summer staple the maxi dress. Not only are they elegant and sophisticated, they can hide a multitude of sins. Perfect for the first few days of your holiday if your legs aren’t yet golden brown and for those days at home when we are caught out by the sunshine and didn’t get time to shave or wax.
A maxi dress to me is a high summer piece and one that I only tend to get out on those rare hot summer evenings at home or on holiday. When on holiday I’d wear it day or evening and dressed down over a swimsuit and up with pretty flats and beads for the evening. My preference are flats with a maxi dress but they look great with wedges too. In fact this option on the left from Atterley Road is perfectly styled for me.
Pick a colour that works with other pieces you are packing – like your swimsuit, an evening coverup and your sandals, or accessorise a patterned dress with one of the colours from the pattern.
The best travelling fabrics are jerseys as they will pack up small and shouldn’t crease. Here are a few of my favourites:
Firstly print dresses – there are everything from graphics to bursts of hot florals. Here I’ve chosen a graphic from Nicole Farhi, a swirl print from Jigsaw and a Snake print from L.K. Bennett in one of the season’s big colour trends – blue.
My favourite though has to be a hot orange from Whistles – perfect for summer sunshine – shown below for the beach and the evening mixed with gold which looks fabulous with a tan.
Will you be packing a maxi for your holiday? I may just be packing 2 – all will be revealed in a future post!
