It’s no surprise that one of the catwalk trends for Spring/Summer is white. This year it was seen as tapered trousers and a huge ruff collared shirt at Gucci, fluid and embellished at Diane Von Furstenberg, full skirted at Marni and Alice Temperley and as a sheer shirt and shorts at Prabal Gurung.
My favourite looks from those shown above are the DVF 2 piece (although clearly it’s not made for someone well endowed like me sadly) and the elegant dress from Alice Temperley on the far right, which was one of the many dresses seen with full, almost prom style, skirts.
White is the perfect accompaniment to hot summer days and holidays. Unfortunately we don’t get that many of the first in England! Which begs the question – Is it worth investing in white pieces? Especially if you have small children or animals. If you buy timeless pieces as part of your capsule wardrobe and look after them carefully the answer may be yes. T-shirts that will only last this one season should be cheaper buys.
Head to toe white is a difficult look to pull off. So why not mix it with some of the other summer trends; metallics, blues, monochrome or flouro?
Whilst on the subject of white I’d like to raise the question of white stiletto shoes – yes or no? They’ve been shown in many of the collections and I’ve seen them worn with skinny jeans but do they bring to mind all that is TOWIE? (fake tans, big hair and Essex). I think they can look elegant with the right outfit, like that shown below middle, but personally I’m not sure I will be investing in a pair, they’re too high maintenance for me. Should you want to try them here are a few options:
Which version of white will you be wearing?
