Holiday Make-Up and Body Treats

The gorgeous weather we’ve had this week has got me in the holiday mood – not that I am going anywhere, but it’s a good excuse for some holiday body and make-up treats. So I am going to get out my favourites and top up with some new ones and enjoy my staycation feeling gorgeous whilst watching the Olympics.

Over the years I have found several products which despite trying newly launched ones, I come back to again and again. It’s  lovely when you take the lid off an aftersun cream and the smell sends you back to the place you last used it. If I do venture out in the sun I have learnt my lesson over the years of being burned, and now prefer to protect and fake a golden glow rather than the very deep brown my skin goes naturally.

Here are a list of products I recommend for before, during and after sun:

Pre Sun

Before you head off prepare your skin with a body scrub and a base of fake tan. I’ve used Clinique Sparkle Skin Body Scrub for years because I love the smell, it comes in a tub or a tube. They used to do a body lotion that I loved but seem to have discontinued it sadly. Get your tan started by using St Tropez Every Day which contains aloe vera as well as self tan, and without the horrid self tan smell. This is a great improvement on previous St Tropez products which seemed to make me itch, but this is moisturising and tans you gradually without streaks. Finally for the face. As mine bears the evidence of sunbathing in my youth the only tan I have on my face now is fake and I indulge it in luxury by using a Chanel product – CHANEL SOLEIL IDENTITÉ Perfect Colour Face Self-Tanner

In the Sun

I’ve mentioned Clinique Super City Block for the face previously. I use it every day that I am in the sun – usually under a tinted moisturiser. It comes in a sheer version Factor 25 or the one I prefer is factor 40. I discovered the Estee Lauder bronze Goddess Tanning range last year and took the factor 30 with me on holiday. I love it because it has a golden shimmer which looks gorgeous on.

After Sun

If you haven’t tried Philip Kingsley products for the hair I would highly recommend them. If you are laying out by a pool or on the beach slick back your hair with Philip Kingsley Swimcap Cream which guards against discolouration and damage caused by the sun as well as chlorine, salt water and wind. Another favorite if your hair is already damaged is Philip Kingsley Elasticizer which has an almost cult following. It’s a little strange in that you use it before shampoo. I can confirm that it adds bounce and shine back into your hair. Buy it individually or as part of the Jet Set Body & Volume Travel Bag. Another favourite discovered last year is Dior Bronze Monoï Balm – Face and Body. Monoï oil comes from Polynesia and is moisturising and soothing and smells like a summer holiday should! If your face suffers in the sun take this Liz Earle Superskin Try-Me Kit with you. It includes the multi award winning cleanser, a skin tonic, Superskin moisturiser and Superskin concentrate which give intensive moisturising, perfect for a sun parched skin.

Ive included a Bottle set from Bobbi Brown so that you can decant other favourites to take with you.

On to Make-Up and I always like to take a few indulgent treats on holiday with me. There are a few regulars which I use all year, but you can’t beat a new shade of Chanel Nail varnish or Lipstick.

I’ve mentioned previously my favourite Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser and Bobbi Brown Shimmer Bricks are perfect for holidays as you can use them on eyes and cheeks. I also have a bronzer and several of the Pot rouge which you can use on cheeks and lips (double duty products are perfect for packing). This Spring picks eye set contains everything you need for your holiday including two of my other favourite products the Long Wear Eyeshadow and Long Wear Gel Eyeliner as well as travel size eye makeup remover, eye cream and brush all in a stylish gold case. For lips a new find is Chanel Rouge Coco Shine available in 18 shades which although some of them look a little scary are actually quite sheer but with a beautiful shine. My favourite picks are Monte Carlo a pinky coral and Style a pretty neutral. For evenings Chanel Glossimer is stunning with a tan.

Finally I couldn’t do a beauty post without adding a Chanel Nail Varnish (or 3) The three shown above are from the summer collection. Holiday is a bright zingy orange perfect for the toes, Delight is a stunning shimmery gold and Desire is a beautiful shell pink (would also be gorgeous for a bride).

Take it all away in a Stylish black organiser from Bobbi Brown.

Have a “beautiful” holiday or staycation. I’d love to hear if you have any favourite holiday products, leave me a comment.
