Mother’s day – the one day of the year that you get to show appreciation for your mum, and if you are lucky get some back from your own children if you have them. I remember when my eldest daughter was about 5 she came home from school and told her dad that the teacher had said you should make your mother a cake on mother’s day! After several hours, a lot of mess and a lot of chocolate I was presented with my cake. A bunch of flowers could never mean that much.
As time has moved on I’ve had both good Mother’s days – like the one above and not so good where I have still done all the chores that seem to be part of the Sunday routine. This year I will be cooking a roast dinner for my mum, and doubt very much there will be any chocolate cake making, but really just knowing that I am appreciated is good enough (although if our numbers come up on Saturday’s lottery I will be visiting a Mulberry store to treat myself to a (few) handbags!
